I am now on Twitter as GeonnCannon, if any of you folks would like to run over there and follow me. I’m pretty sure it’ll be updated a lot more than this thing. <g> The problem with this blog is that I always feel like the updates should be important or lengthy. That’s not necessarily necessary. I could post just to shoot the breeze and keep people informed about what I’m writing. I’ll try to do that in the future, promise.

Meantime, if you want some seriously unimportant updates, I’ll see you on Twitter!

Just a head’s up for all the faithful readers of my blog (you guys are out there, right…? <g>). It’s going to be going away for a little while so my website can be redesigned and made better…stronger…faster. All that jazz. But it has to be taken offline for the changes to be made. Don’t fret, there will be a mirror site (thanks to my lovely best friend!) for the actual content, but the blog can’t be mirrored because [insert technobabble here]. Just because.

The downtime will be near the end of this month, around the 28th or so. It’ll be back up sometime in the first week of September. So, you know, not a huge downtime, but long enough that people might panic without the warning. So here it is! The blog will be incommunicado for a week. Don’t panic! I’ve gone weeks and weeks without posting before (as I’m sure you’ve noticed. :D ). It’s just best to do this now before Halloween and Thanksgiving and NaNo and all those crazy holidays that inspire writing.

Today, the final story in the “first season” of Riley Parra stories went up. The response to this series has been unbelievable, so of course there is going to be a second season. I’m not sure when exactly it will be starting up, so watch this space for details. <g> I’ll also be updating the Academy of Bards to let people know when it’s up and running.

Thanks to Morgan for doing all the work getting the stories up, eirian for the awesome artwork that fronted each story, Ethan Eddy and John O’Connor for using their in-depth and all-inclusive critical eye on each and every story. Thanks to everyone who sent feedback, especially Hermes for going all-out with feedback for each story. It was very much appreciated.

Thanks to all of you who made all the hard work worthwhile. I hope I’ll see you all back for Season 2!

Josh Ritter music used in the headers of each story are as follows…
“Wings” from the album Hello, Starling
“Harrisburg,” from the album Golden Age of Radio
“Lawrence, KS,” from the album Golden Age of Radio
“Girl in the War,” from the album The Animal Years
“To the Dogs or Whoever,” from the album The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter
“Thin Blue Flame,” from the album The Animal Years

and

“Who by Fire,” by Leonard Cohen, from the album New Skin for the Old Ceremony

Check ‘em out. You may be pleasantly surprised. <g>

As for me, I’m going to spend some time focusing on other stories and characters, including hopefully getting back to my home on Squire’s Isle. Hopefully you guys have missed it as much as I have! I have a Halloween story all planned, and some other surprises I’m going to try and slip in before I get started on Riley. My thoughts right now, as of this moment, are to expect new Riley stories sometime near the end of this year or the beginning of next. Stay tuned, and thank you all so much for your support and for enjoying these stories. And unlike some people, beating down the doors and demanding more stories might actually get me to work faster. I hate a deadline. <g>

I just got my author’s copies of World on Fire today (and yes, Morgan and Mary, that means your copies are going to be on their way ASAP!) and I noticed there was something missing from it! There are no acknowledgements at the front of the book! Eep! This is a shame because I actually had people to thank this time around. <g> Anyway, I thought it was better to say it here than to not say it at all, so everyone take a minute and tip your hat to the people mentioned here. People mentioned here, take a moment to stand and take a bow. <g>

WORLD ON FIRE ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

The book you’re holding in your hands (let’s just assume you’re holding it in your hands while reading my blog. ~wink~) made it there because of a lot of hard work and dedication from Barb Coles and Linda Daniel, the engine that makes P.D. Publishing run. I am forever grateful to them for their hard work to make my dream come true. This, my third published novel, is amazing and something that I thought I would only dream about.

I also want to thank Leslie Ann Miller and Patty Schram for their input on firefighting. There are a few things that were in the book that got fixed because of their input, so they saved me a lot of red-faced apologies. Anything that is still wrong is due to my negligence, not their lack of effort. Blame me, not them. They tried their best, they really did.

To Chris Case, for her support and cheerleading and badgering throughout the writing process of this and every novel. My books wouldn’t be the same without you being by my side, and I’m grateful for that support every day.

And huge thanks go to Mary Evanov. Mary donated to Equality USA to help the fight to legalize gay marriage and, in honor of that, she receives the dubious distinction of having her name appear in one of my novels. Sorry it took so long, but I thank you for your patience and your generosity.

Finally, this novel was written in honor of every firefighter out there, man and woman, who put their lives on the line every single day.

That’s right, as a couple (hundred <g>) of you have already figured out, the next installment of the Riley Parra series popped up a couple of days early! This wasn’t a mistake, just a little jump in the schedule for all you faithful readers. And another jump is already planned: Instead of an Open and Shut story in two weeks, the season finale – Life of Riley - will be posted on August 15th! So update your calendars and be on the lookout for that one.

I hope you enjoy My Empire of Dirt, and I look forward to seeing everyone’s reactions to the final two stories of the first season. <g> And be sure to go buy a copy of World on Fire, Gemini, or On the Air from your favorite bookseller!
