Soon! <g> Available now!

Today is the day Riley Parra #3, Losing My Religion, is due on my website. Judging by the flood of people coming to my blog from that page, I felt the need to say that it is done. 100%. Everything is polished and pretty and nice. And now it is up and ready to be read. I hope everyone enjoys reading the new entry in the series as much as I enjoy writing them. Long live Riley!

In other Riley news… the Riley page has now referred more people to my blog than any other page of my website. Including the main page! Wow. Kudos to you guys! ~raises a glass~

1.3 Losing My Religion – Following the threat from Marchosias and a harrowing incident in the morgue, Riley and Priest decide to take the fight to the demons with dire consequences.

Huzzah, I bring you happy news! I got an email this morning (technically last night) from P.D. Publishing. One of the four novels I have in their queue has been accepted! All I have to do now is let them put together the contract and then sign it. I have the pen all ready. This manuscript went through quite a few changes and revisions and new drafts, so I’m really gratified to finally see it with a stamp of approval.

So, my fifth novel from P.D. Publishing will be The Following Sea.  And I don’t want to give too much away, but one reason I’m glad this book is coming out is because something and/or someone in the novel will make an appearance in a future book I have yet to write. So it’s good to know this story will be part of the canon before I write the other book that’s connected to it.

Still no word on Only Flame and Air (the second Claire Lance novel, following Tilting at Windmills), but Confused by Shadows seemed very close to being accepted. I hope we can do a two-fer with that, but… well, we’ll see what develops. I don’t want to put the cart before the horse. <g>

Summary: “Sara Tamirova doesn’t need much to make her happy. She’s a well-respected deckhand on an Alaskan salmon seiner in the summer months, and she has a steady stream of beds she can hop into if the winter gets too cold. But all that changes when she meets Vanessa Kavik. It’s lust at first sight for Sara, but her fantasies are quickly dashed when she discovers that the lovely newcomer is married to a fellow deckhand. She’s ready to throw in the towel when Vanessa casually reveals that she’s bisexual, she has an open relationship with her husband.

Sara is adamant about becoming involved with a married woman; she just won’t cross that line no matter how willing the couple might be. But her platonic friendship with Vanessa causes a lot more problems than it eases and Sara finds her resolve crumbling. With her feelings for Vanessa threatening to overtake her better judgement, Sara is forced to make a move one way or another. But as she’s learned time and again, the sea can be dangerous, and the weather can change at a moment’s notice.”

May day, may day! ~sirens~

Okay, a bit overdramatic. But it’s once a year. <g>

The true purpose of this post is to announce a little side project in relation to the Riley Parra stories. When I started out, I figured seven would be a nice, easy number of stories. I had them all planned out, everything was going well. One story a month would be a nice schedule to keep. Then people went crazy for the character and I started hoping people would be able to wait until the stories were written. I was envisioning emails of the “When is the next one coming?!” variety. So I came up with a solution.

I can’t write the bigger stories any faster, and I wouldn’t want to make my artistic friend work any harder to get the PDFs/artwork prepared. So I decided on a compromise: I would write stories that took place in Riley’s universe, but outside of the over-arcing story, and I would post them individually between the longer stories. That way people can get their fix without me killing myself (or my dear webmistress <g>).

So, the first story in the “Open and Shut” series is going to be appearing very soon. It’s called Shades of Gray and it features Riley and Priest investigating a home invasion. While this one involves Riley, that doesn’t mean she’ll always be a central character in the “Open and Shut” stories. She may not even appear in all of them.

Hopefully everyone will enjoy these little snacks as much as they have enjoyed the full-blown meals of Better Angels and No Use Crying. Be on the lookout for the third story in the Riley Parra series, Losing My Religion, which will be coming up  on May 14!
