News from P.D. Publishing today. It’s not exactly official, since I haven’t signed the contract. But I will when I get it, so it’s close enough to official for me. They accepted my fourth novel, Tilting at Windmills to be published in October 2009. I am very excited about this, as you can imagine, as I felt this novel had tremendous potential. The plan is to make this the first in a series of novels about the character of Claire Lance, and I have the others mostly plotted out. Skeleton plots, but plots nonetheless. Look for it soon!

Tilting at Windmills - When her car breaks down outside of Saxe, Texas, all Claire Lance wants to do is keep her head down, and get back on the road. But when she wanders into the Four Roses Bar, she’s forced to take action to save the life of Gwen Morse, the bartender. When the violence escalates and a group of very dangerous men suddenly have reason to want her dead, Lance has no choice but to go on the run with Gwen in tow. But what Gwen doesn’t know is that Lance’s past is just as deadly… and it’s going to catch up with them.

This has been asked of me several times, so I thought I would finally put this up for everyone to see. I’m just antsy about making it official, ie putting it on my website, because I’m still fiddling with it.

This is the chronological order of my canon stories. Meaning these stories could be referenced in future stories, or can be considered “official” events for the people of Squire’s Isle. If it’s not on this list, it’s not official in my mind, and can be read in any order you’d like. This is a tentative list, and always changing. The short stories either are, or will be shortly, available in the Coffee Table  Books section of my website unless otherwise noted.

I made a joke earlier this morning (about five minutes ago, if you want to be exact) that I wasn’t international. Then I checked my blog stats and found visitors from Dublin, Ireland (hey, I just wrote about your corner of the world in my new novel!), the United Kingdom, Norway, and France. On the off-chance all those people are checking me out to buy my book… hey, glad to have you! If you’d like to drop me a line and let me know how you found me, I’d love to hear from you!

And not to worry, American fans. You guys are just as awesome! All my fans are awesome. As is the fact that I have fans. <g>

Welcome to my blog! I hope to have more stuff of substance for you soon!

Hey, everyone! There’s a new toy that I can now see where people are visiting my blog come from. And it’s, to be quite honest, kind of remarkable. Germany and Uzbekistan seem to have the biggest visitors. So hello to all you out there! Drop me a line and say hello, let me know how you happened across my little world. And most of all if you enjoyed the stories/books. <g>

Secondly, about two weeks after Vital Signs was published in Khimairal Ink, they accepted a second short story, In Every Port, to be published in their January 2009 issue. That’s, what, five or six months away? Expect more reminders between now and then. The story is not so much a sequel, but a continuization of the short story Baked Goods, available on my website in the Coffee Table Books section.

And to all you people out there visiting my blog from all over the world… welcome! Hope you like what you see! :D

Last week I got my first-ever royalty check for On the Air. After staring at it for pretty much a full day – this was money I got for writing – I decided that it wasn’t an advance, it was my first royalty check ever, my first novel had earned back my advance (and not too slowly, either), so I decided to have some fun with it. “Some fun” included buying new jeans and shoes because my old ones were falling apart. <g>

But I also bought fun stuff. I got Corner Gas Season 4 on DVD, a Josh Ritter CD (one more and I’ll have his entire oeuvre (not counting EPs)), and some other fun stuff. It’s surprising how quickly you can blow through a check when you’re not trying to save anything. <g>

There is still one day left on the livelongnmarry auction to name a character in World on Fire! Bidding is standing at $50, so run over and donate some money for a great cause! You can find the auction by clicking on the “seller: geonncannon” tag. Good luck!

There’s a community on Livejournal doing a wonderful thing: from the profile, it is attempting to “raise money for the fight against the California initiative which will legally destroy existing same-sex marriages and ban any further ones.”

I’m willing to do my part and, in that vein, I am offering the winning bidder a chance to name a character in my upcoming novel World on Fire. Character, building name, pet name, it’s up to the winner what they label. And I get a chance to refuse and ask for a second choice, of course. Bids start at $50, and there’s already been a nibble. So check it out, donate for a good cause, and get immortalized in World on Fire! You’ll also get an autographed copy of the book once I have my author’s copies.

I also won’t be using the names of real-life people or copyrighted names. I can’t afford to be sued! :D Bidding closes on July 15, 12:01 AM one minute after midnight Pacific Time, 2008.

Happy bidding!

Edited: Auction ended and, for $50, LJ user maryling shall have a character named after her in World on Fire. Congratulations to her, and a big thank you for supporting such a worthy cause!

My short story “Vital Signs” is now available in Khimairal Ink’s July issue. Go check it out, let me know what you think. And while you’re there, check out the other stories in the issue (one of them is by a friend of mine, but I’m not going to tell you which one ;D). “Vital Signs” is a story about how a woman deals with being differently-abled, but is still able to live life to the fullest.
